Kate Middleton and Prince William are helping to launch the inaugural King's Cup Regatta, which will raise awareness for their patronages. They have launched the first-ever King's Cup regatta on the Isle of Wight.
According to the royal family's official site, the winning team will be awarded The King’s Cup, a historic trophy first presented by King George V at Cowes’s Royal Yacht Squadron in 1920.
William and Kate hope the King's Cup regatta will become an annual event, bringing greater awareness to the benefits of sport.

The event happened a day earlier than planned because of forecast bad weather. The royal couple took part in the event off the Isle of Wight on Thursday and not Friday as originally scheduled, with arrangements for the public viewing the spectacle remaining the same.

The Duchess of Cambridge boat represents The Royal Foundation, in connection with her work with young children. Prince William was racing on behalf of the charity Child Bereavement UK. The royal pair joined a group of other celebrity guests in a boat race to raise money for eight different charities they support; each charity was represented by a different boat in the race.
All eight charities benefitting from the race this year are ones for which William or Kate are patron, including Child Bereavement UK, Centrepoint, London’s Air Ambulance Charity 30th Anniversary Campaign, Tusk, Action on Addiction, Place2Be, the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families, and The Royal Foundation.

She ditched her princess-like wardrobe for sporty attire, including a baseball cap, jacket, and shorts. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a striped, frilly Sandro top, L.K.Bennett pants, and Superga sneakers. However, she ultimately changed into a sportier ensemble for the race. Kensington Palace shared a photo of her with the Duke of Cambridge in white polo shirts, cargo shorts, and sneakers. This was, in fact the first time she wore shorts for first time since becoming a royal.
